REV. CECIL LAWRENCE POTTER &
VERA MAE POTTER SCHOLARSHIPS

The Rev. Cecil Lawrence and Vera Mae Potter Scholarships were established in May 2011 to honor our founding pastor and his wife as a tribute to their contributions and lifelong service to this church and community. Both Rev. and Mrs. Potter understood the importance of education and wanted to invest in the lives of young people so that they could become all that God intended them to be. They stood as a beacon of light to everyone they came in contact with, and they had a special love for youth.

Throughout their lives, Rev. and Mrs. Potter exhibited characteristics that we believe all young people should aspire. They loved God, followed Him wholeheartedly, and strived for excellence in everything they did.

Together they led with a servant’s heart, touching the lives of countless men, women, and children with their warmth and hospitality, humility and virtue. Their love for their neighbor was evident as they welcomed strangers, empowered the community, and instilled in our church those same values.

This year in July, a scholarship will be awarded to a male recipient in the name of Rev. Cecil Lawrence Potter, and a female recipient in the name of Mrs. Vera Mae Potter.  Applicants seeking this scholarship should meet the standard minimum requirements and demonstrate the central characteristics listed above for consideration. In addition, scholarship recipients are expected to represent them well and bring honor to their name.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

  1. Must be an active member of Antioch Baptist Church, Inc.

  2. Must provide the completed application form

  3. Must be a graduating high school senior

  4. Must maintain a 2.5 or above GPA

  5. Must provide a copy of high school transcript

  6. Must demonstrate characteristics of Rev. Cecil Lawrence Potter and Mrs. Vera Mae Potter

  7. Must be involved in church & school activities

  8. Must provide three (3) typed reference letters

  9. Must provide a full two-page typed essay   

     

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS MONDAY, JUNE 26TH

SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE AWARDED ON SUNDAY, JULY 2ND
